Sortly: Mobile App Review for Organising Your Removal

Published on , in Technology.

Last time, you might recall that we reviewed Home Move Pro, software that helps customers keep track of items when moving house. In the same department lies Sortly, another app that claims to expand on this by providing a week-by-week agenda, QR codes and a updatable list of lent items and warranty notices. Let’s dive in and have a look.

User Interface

On first impressions we can see this this a very well designed app. The fonts are clear and crisp, folders are colour coded, and you can tag items to keep track of what you’ve been jotting down. Although your inventory could be very large, Sortly keeps the UI nice and minimal, so you’ll never feel overwhelmed with needless buttons and settings.

Features

At the end of the day, a home moving app should simply list and group items, and allow the customer to tick things off. At this basic level, Sortly works. You can create endless combinations of rooms, boxes and subfolders in Sortly.

What’s even better is that items can be given important metadata: photo attachments, quantity, price and notes. You could effectively itemise an entire household with this system and never feel out of depth. All this is wonderfully presented by a clean and simple UI, which as we mentioned is very effective at making you feel organised.

The Sortly Moving Checklist

We expected Sortly to be a good, reliable inventory app. What we weren’t expecting was the Moving Checklist. This feature is preloaded with the app and details dozens of tasks you should perform during the removal. What’s more is that these are timed in a week-by-week countdown. Want to defrost the freezer? Do it the day before. Change prescriptions? One week before. All of these jobs expand into more detail when you select them, working together to give you a huge set of instructions for moving home. Nifty eh?

QR Labels

Sortly also offer printable QR labels that you can stick to boxes and scan during a removal. While we weren’t able to use this feature in the free version, we imagine this would be very helpful when you have dozens of opaque cardboard boxes. It’s not really breaking ground over labelling by pen, but there’s a tidiness in scanning boxes that we like.

Overall, Sortly is another fantastic addition to the home mover’s app collection. While its basic features work as they should, the Moving Checklist really sets the app apart. We take our hats off to it, and recommend you give it a try in the weeks leading up to your big day.
