There’s usually one thing on every student’s mind when moving out of home, not that, money. Suddenly it’s your responsibility to make your money last and it seems such a long time between payments.
If you have a student loan you may for a few weeks feel quite rich however realisation soon dawns when you find out just how much things cost.
You’ll soon be making decisions between food and socialising, new clothes or bills, you can’t have it all, or can you?
There are many ways you can make extra cash when you move into halls, here are just a few we’ve picked out for you.
Hone Your Skills
No matter what your major is, there are jobs online that are flexible and can be done from a dorm room. If you’re good at writing essays, along with doing your own you can help others for a fee. You can write articles or blogs, use your technical skills for web design or even update social media statuses for a company. The world really is your oyster as long as you spend your time wisely.
Start a Community
Mark Zuckerberg began Facebook at university as an exclusive community. Even though this has already been done it doesn’t mean you can’t do it on a smaller scale. You can start your own niche university community online and if it gets interest you can charge for membership or even advertising.
Sell Your Collections
As a child you probably didn’t think twice about your Beanie boo collection or your Star Wars Lego, you just knew you had to have every single one. Take a look on the internet as now, a lot of these retro toys are selling for a lot of money. A student recently sold ten Star Wars Lego sets (used) for four thousand pounds, simply because one was quite hard to get hold of now.
Beanies too are still collectible and there’s a whole new generation looking for the rare big eyed teddy bear while those Yu Gi Oh cards could make you a pretty packet too.
Of course before you sell anything, always check with your parents first as they could feel quite offended if it were a gift from them.
Offer Your Services
You can also make money out of your new friends by offering services such as picking up their shopping or giving them a lift to a bar. You won’t make oodles of cash but if you find a gap in the market you could make a pretty penny simply doing something you’d do anyway, just usually for free.
The best business people don’t wait until they have their degree, they start early!
