We offer a courteous and professional removal service for people who are moving into care homes, residential flats or sheltered accommodation. Our role is to make the process as comfortable as possible for both the service user and their family.

We’ve worked with most of the care homes in York and are familiar with the layouts, parking arrangements and local roads. Moving with us ensures your belongings go from door to door with minimal fuss.
Upon arrival, our team can assist care home staff with unloading, unpacking and arranging items to ensure the room is as welcoming as possible for when the resident arrives. If that means putting together flat pack furniture, we can do that. Similarly, we’re able to dismantle existing furniture at the collection address then put it back together in the care home.
Residential home moves rarely exceed one or two rooms’ worth of items. We have vans specifically for this so that no fuel is wasted on a full size vehicle. Furthermore, we make sure every van is fully carpeted and items are packed responsibly so that no ornaments, heirlooms or keepsakes are damaged in transit. We’re also fully insured for that extra layer of security. Put simply, everything from furniture to photo frames are safe in our hands.
Moving a family member into a care home isn’t always a straight line. Sometimes you must move essentials into the care home then transport more items to another property - a friend or relative’s, for example.
If you need to book us beyond the A to B of taking someone’s belongings to the nursing home, we can do that. We’ll allocate enough time in the calendar to drive back to the collection address, load the van with more items and then transport it to a location of your choice. Alternatively, we can drive the items to storage for you to collect later when the time is right.

Excellent Service! I would highly recommend them. We forgot to confirm our removal via email. The day of the removal I woke up at 4.30am with a doubt I realize that the removal firm was indeed not confirmed (my fault). I called the manager Dale who managed to save the day by organising a last-minute team. The guys did a fantastic job, dismantling/reassembling an expensive ottoman bed and taking it up to the second floor through an incredibly tight staircase without a scratch. They wrapped and protected everything, also items which really didn't need any protection. Everything has been moved without a scratch to the furniture and the premises. And the price was not even comparable to other moving companies in York. I have been charged lucrative quotes from other companies, given that we did all the boxes, we had very few furniture (one king bed, a sofa, table and chairs) and the old and new places were just 3 roads away. I could not believe how different the quotes were and I could not understand how to justify such a huge difference. We eventually decided to take the "risk" to go with 1 Van 1 Man Removals who quoted us a fraction of the others. Very easy move with Dale and his lifter n shifter on the day, James. Both really courteous and easy to work with. I had a guy to help me out and they were happy to work with him. I had to move stuff from two locations to a third. All done smoothly and efficiently - everything securely loaded and fixed in the van, everything unloaded to where I wanted it. Dale had also advised me where to get packing materials in York as I'd been let down by a courier. Mike and Dave made the perfect team to help me move a 2 bed house on my own - After a quick look around and confirming what was going on the van they cracked straight on, dismantling wardrobes that wouldn’t fit down the stairs, loading boxes and negotiating a very large prickly Holly tree (well done Mike, you were a trooper!) Once at my new home they unloaded quickly and efficiently (thanks to Dave’s expert Tetris loading skills) and kept checking in with me where I needed all my furniture and belongings put. This is the second time I have used 1van1man and I will continue to do so. They made the move feel so easy, especially as it was just me as my husband was at work.
