Goole is a really interesting town to work in and one that we enjoy being called out to no matter what the job is. As England’s most inland port, Goole sits on the River Ouse around 50 miles from the North Sea, which is how it came to be known as a ‘port in green fields’. The town itself is a relative newcomer, the original settlement (Old Goole) came about in the 1600s thanks to the diversion of the River Don. Goole as we know it today sprang up in the 1800s as a purpose built ‘company-town’ and received its port charter in 1826. The later Victorian development has really left its mark on the town and the lovely red brick buildings are one of the reasons we find the place so charming - that and the friendly residents!

If we’ve ever got a bit of free time between jobs in Goole we like to take advantage of the town’s easily-accessed green spaces for a quick spot of lunch, whether that’s West Park or Oakhill Nature Reserve. The river-side walks look great as well, maybe that’s something for a day off rather than a lunch break though!
