Removals in Goole — Britain's "Port in Green Fields"

Removals in Goole take us nearly 50 miles inland from the North Sea, to what's officially Britain's furthest inland port, earning the town its old nickname: a "port in green fields." The land itself only became habitable after Dutch engineer Cornelius Vermuyden diverted the River Don on the orders of King Charles I in the 1620s — the resulting waterway is still known as the Dutch River today.

House removals in Goole bring us past the town's distinctive skyline of cranes, its centenary clock tower built in 1926, and the "salt and pepper pot" water towers locals have nicknamed for their shape. In the town's industrial heyday, an ingenious system of linked coal boats called Tom Puddings were towed along the canal and tipped by giant hydraulic hoists straight into waiting ships — a piece of Victorian engineering unique to Goole. The docks still handle around two million tonnes of cargo a year.
